INTEGRATIVE GENOMICS UNIT

The Integrative Genomics Unit (IGU) at the Tropical Infectious Diseases Research & Education Centre (TIDREC), Universiti Malaya, leads research in pathogen and host genomics using next-generation sequencing (NGS) to uncover the genetic diversity and evolution of infectious agents.

Building on its role in Malaysia’s National COVID-19 Genomics Consortium, IGU continues to conduct pathogen genomic surveillance and sequencing in collaboration with national and regional partners, strengthening readiness for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases through the One Health approach.

Research at IGU encompasses viral, bacterial, and vector-borne pathogens, together with their human and animal hosts and vectors, using genomic and bioinformatics tools to study how infections evolve, adapt, and spread. The researchers and students continue to generate and translate genomic data into insights that enhance diagnostics, surveillance, and response strategies across human, animal, and environmental health.

TIDREC, advancing integrative genomics and national capacity for a healthier, more resilient future.
